The news that shocked many came on Wednesday when Justice H.A. Gegele of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin sentenced Prophet Ajiboye Olayinka to life imprisonment. He was found guilty of having unlawful sexual intercourse with three minors inside the church's mission house in Agah, Ganmo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In a related development, the same court sentenced Prophet Olayinka to 14 years imprisonment for performing illegal abortions on several pregnancies of his victims. The court also ordered that a pump-action gun recovered from the defendant be forfeited to the Federal Government.
Prophet Ajiboye Olayinka, the General Overseer of Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, was charged with an eight-count offence. These offences included criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The prosecution, led by Issa Zakari, Chief State Counsel, called 12 witnesses and tendered exhibits during the trial. The victims, PW3, PW4, and PW5, told the court that the defendant administered anointing oil on their private parts. Then, he had forceful sexual intercourse with them in the mission house.
The defendant had a different story. He and his witnesses were vigorously cross-examined by the prosecution team on February 11, 2026.
The court described Prophet Olayinka as "a pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in the society." The judge held that the prosecution had successfully proven the offences of unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, rape, and illegal abortions.
However, there was one charge the prosecution failed to establish: bigamy. As a result, the court discharged the defendant of that count.
The life imprisonment sentence and 14 years imprisonment will run concurrently. The defendant will serve his time in a Nigerian prison.
