Don Jazzy is now the face of Betway in Nigeria. The betting company announced on Friday that the Mavin Records boss will serve as its brand ambassador, appearing across its platforms to connect with local fans.
This isn't just another endorsement deal. Betway is trying to win over Nigerians who see Don Jazzy as more than a music producer — he's a cultural gatekeeper. His Mavin Records label launched the careers of stars like Tiwa Savage, Rema, and Ayra Starr. He has millions of followers who trust his taste.
"Don Jazzy is a cultural force whose influence transcends entertainment," said Neal Menashe, CEO of Super Group, Betway's parent company. "His commitment to excellence and community empowerment aligns with the core values Betway champions."
Betway has been pushing hard into Africa. The company, which started in 2006, operates in multiple countries including South Africa, Kenya, and now Nigeria. It's part of Super Group, a global digital betting firm that ranked 5th in the latest EGR Power 50 list of the industry's biggest players.
Don Jazzy himself said the partnership felt natural. "Betway is a brand that understands ambition, creativity and confidence," he said. "I'm excited to represent Betway in Nigeria and to be part of a brand that values culture, connection and authenticity."
The timing matters. Nigeria's betting market is crowded — companies like Bet9ja, SportyBet, and 1xBet already dominate. Betway is betting that Don Jazzy's credibility can cut through the noise and make the brand feel local.
Don Jazzy, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, started Mavin Records in 2012 after leaving Mo' Hits Records, which he co-founded with D'banj. He has won multiple awards, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act. He also runs a record label, a talent management firm, and has dabbled in tech investments.
For Betway, the deal is about more than a logo on a shirt. The company wants to be seen as part of Nigerian pop culture, not just a foreign betting site. Don Jazzy will feature in ads, events, and possibly content that blends music with sports betting.
Critics may question the link between gambling and a family-friendly icon like Don Jazzy. Betway insists it promotes responsible gambling. The company is a member of several industry watchdogs, including the International Betting Integrity Association and the Betting and Gaming Council.
For now, Don Jazzy's fans will see him pushing bets alongside beats. Whether that changes his image isn't clear — but Betway is counting on it.
