The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has launched a digital tax platform called Rev360 that can identify tax defaulters and make filing taxes as easy as ordering food from your phone.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja on Wednesday, NRS Executive Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji described Rev360 as a transformational tool that will move the agency into what he called Tax Administration 3.0 — a system built on technology, transparency, and data.

"The launch has reinforced the Nigeria Revenue Service's commitment to innovation, digital transformation, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement," Adedeji said.

The platform is designed to handle everything from taxpayer registration and filing to payment processing and compliance management. Taxpayers will be able to access the system from their offices or homes without needing to visit NRS offices.

Iniabasi Akpkan, the NRS Executive Director of Technology, said the technology makes it easy for people to pay. "That will drive, ultimately, voluntary compliance," he said. "I think naturally it will make people do it much more easily because if people can pay more easily, they can pay faster, conveniently from the comfort of their offices and their home."

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, sent a representative to the event. The Permanent Secretary (Special Duties) of the Ministry, Mohammed Sanusi, read Oyedele's remarks. Oyedele called efficient, tech-enabled tax systems the backbone of modern economies. He said Rev360 is critical for strengthening revenue administration, improving the ease of doing business, and boosting investor confidence.

Oyedele assured the NRS that the ministry would support the platform's implementation. He noted that Rev360 is just the first phase of a broader transformation journey aimed at simplifying every interaction taxpayers have with the service.

The launch comes as Nigeria pushes to increase its tax-to-GDP ratio, which is one of the lowest in the world. The government has been under pressure to boost non-oil revenue after years of volatile oil prices. Digital platforms like Rev360 are seen as a way to widen the tax net without raising rates — by making it harder to evade and easier to comply.

For the average Nigerian taxpayer, the change means less time spent queuing at tax offices and more transparency about what they owe. For those who've been dodging taxes, the system's ability to identify defaulters could mean a knock on the door — or at least a notification on their phone.
