Ondo APC Elders Urge Members to Accept NWC's Decision on Candidates

The women of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State took to the streets of Akure to protest against the list of candidates released by the party's National Working Committee. The Chairman of the APC Elders Forum in the state, Demola Ijabiyi, spoke to journalists in Akure, reiterating the elders' support for the NWC's decision on the candidates list. He stated that the party remains governed by its constitution, established rules, and transparent processes.

Ijabiyi added that the primaries conducted in Ondo State last month were not free and fair, describing them as mere imposition. He urged party members to accept the NWC's decision with dignity and without further agitation.

According to Ijabiyi, the party's decision is binding on all members, and the supremacy of the party must prevail over personal ambition or sectional interests. He stressed that continued protests and acts of defiance would amount to indiscipline and risk placing those involved at variance with the party's core values and constitutional principles.

The elders' forum has consistently cautioned against every form of candidate imposition within the party in Ondo State. Ijabiyi said they understood the disappointment and frustration of party members and their supporters, but urged them to accept the decision of the national leadership with dignity and without further agitation.

We maintained, at every opportunity, that the wishes of party members, the integrity of the nomination process, and the supremacy of the party must never be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition or political expediency.”

Ijabiyi also mentioned that the elders' forum remains committed to mobilising support across Ondo State for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and other candidates of the APC in the forthcoming general election in 2027.

He appealed to leaders, elected officials, aspirants, and stakeholders to close ranks, eschew divisive politics, and work together in the overall interest of the party and the people of Ondo State.
