The Nigeria Customs Service has made a stunning ₦3.35 trillion in revenue between January and May 2026, while intensifying anti-smuggling operations across the country. Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, disclosed this on Thursday during a joint security briefing in Abuja.

According to Maiwada, the revenue generated is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Customs officials. 'We are committed to trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations, and our revenue generation is a reflection of our efforts,' he said.

But here's the shocking part: the Customs Service also seized ₦24.3 billion worth of drugs in the same five-month period. This is a significant increase from the ₦10 billion worth of drugs seized in the previous year. The seizures were made in multiple locations across the country, with the majority coming from the Lagos and Port Harcourt areas.

The Lagos area command of the Customs Service led the pack in seizures, seizing ₦8.5 billion worth of drugs, followed closely by the Port Harcourt area command, which seized ₦5.5 billion worth of drugs. The Customs Service said the seizures were made through intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies.

The revenue generated by the Customs Service is expected to be a significant boost to the country's revenue, which has been under pressure in recent years. The Service's commitment to anti-smuggling operations is expected to prevent the loss of revenue to smuggling activities.

The Customs Service has a long history of generating revenue for the country, but its recent efforts to combat smuggling and money laundering have been particularly successful. In recent years, the Service has implemented various initiatives aimed at improving trade facilitation and reducing the risk of smuggling.

The Service's anti-smuggling operations have led to the seizure of hundreds of billions of naira worth of goods, including rice, vehicles, and other contraband. The revenue generated from these seizures has been substantial, and it's expected to continue to contribute significantly to the country's revenue.

The Nigeria Customs Service is a key player in the country's revenue generation, and its efforts to combat smuggling and money laundering are crucial to the country's economic growth. With its recent success in generating revenue and seizures of contraband, the Service is expected to continue to play a vital role in the country's economy.
