The single sharpest fact in one or two punchy sentences. Who did what, where, when, and why it matters. Not a summary of everything — the one thing that makes someone stop scrolling. A total of 36 students from Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Borno State, still remain in the custody of suspected Boko Haram insurgents who attacked the school on Monday. The attack saw one teacher killed and dozens of students and staff abducted while sitting for the National Examinations Council, NECO, Senior School Certificate Examination. According to school records, the students still in captivity comprise 25 females and 11 males. They include one SS3 student, 17 SS2 students and 18 SS1 students.

The release of their identities provides a clearer picture of the scale of the abduction, as families continue to await news of their loved ones while security agencies intensify rescue efforts. Initial reports indicated that 43 people, comprising 41 students and two teachers, were abducted during the attack. However, seven victims — five female students and the two teachers — have since been rescued by security operatives.

The councillor representing the ward, Jagila Jabula, said the list was compiled by the school authorities in collaboration with the parents of the missing students. The rescued teachers confirmed that many of the students remain in captivity despite ongoing rescue efforts.

So far, the security forces have managed to rescue seven of the kidnapped students, including the two teachers who were part of the group that was taken away by the insurgents. The rescue operation is continuing with the hope of locating the remaining 36 students.

The students were said to have been taken away by the insurgents, who stormed the school early on Monday morning, causing panic and destruction. The incident has left many people in the community and the country at large in shock and demanding that the government takes action to rescue the remaining students.

The rescue operation is ongoing and the security forces are working tirelessly to locate the remaining students and bring them back to their families. The government has also promised to do everything within its power to ensure the safe return of the students.

And as the rescue efforts continue, the families of the kidnapped students are left with a lot of hope and anxiety, hoping that their loved ones will be reunited with them soon. The names of the students still missing are:
