Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has started serving her 10-year prison sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison. According to award-winning journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, she arrived at the Prison after several days of medical treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Her extradition from the United States sparked public interest and controversy, with some members of the public wondering if she had indeed been incarcerated. However, a report by the Pledge Against Corruption (PAC) revealed that she is currently being held in the female section of the Nsawam Prison.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was initially handed over to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) after her arrival at the Kotoka International Airport and subsequently transferred to the Ghana Prisons Service. Sources close to the matter revealed that she had arrived in Ghana with an existing medical condition, which had been communicated to Ghanaian authorities by their counterparts in the United States before her extradition.

Before she was transferred to Nsawam, she was under the custody of prison authorities at all times and was not allowed to seek treatment at any private medical facility.

The PAC report stated that access to her is tightly restricted, with only a limited number of family members permitted to visit. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu returned to Ghana on June 9, 2026, following her extradition from the United States to serve a 10-year prison sentence.

She was convicted and sentenced in absentia after failing to return to Ghana from the United States, where she had travelled in 2021 with permission from the High Court to seek medical treatment while her trial was ongoing. An Accra High Court found her guilty of multiple offenses, including causing financial loss to the state and stealing, in 2024.

Her conviction followed a prolonged legal battle centered on allegations of the misappropriation and diversion of state resources during her tenure as Chief Executive of MASLOC.

The Accra High Court is expected to deliver its ruling on an appeal filed by her legal team, challenging the propriety of her trial and sentencing in absentia, on July 30, 2026.

Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu's whereabouts had generated public interest in recent weeks, with some members of the public calling on the government to account for her location.
