Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye is back in handcuffs. The singer and TV host was arrested on Sunday, 14 June, after a jealous rage that ended with him firing a gun at an Uber driver.

The Uyajola 9/9 presenter — a man who built his career exposing cheaters on national TV — is now accused of doing exactly what his show hunts down: losing it over a suspected affair. Police say he confronted an e-hailing driver who had dropped off his girlfriend at his Edenvale home in the early hours. According to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, Jub Jub accused the driver of being in a relationship with his partner. He then allegedly forced the driver into his own vehicle and refused to let him leave. At some point during the altercation, he fired a gun in the driver's direction.

The driver managed to escape unharmed and drove straight to the nearest police station to report the incident.

Jub Jub faces charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice, and discharging a firearm in public. He's expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 June.

This isn't the first time the musician has found himself on the wrong side of the law. In 2010, he was arrested after a drag racing incident that killed four schoolchildren. He was initially convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison. But in 2014, the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the murder convictions and replaced them with culpable homicide, saying there wasn't enough evidence of intent to kill. His sentence was reduced to an effective eight years, and he was released on parole in 2017.

More recently, in 2022, his ex-girlfriend Amanda du Pont accused him of rape and domestic abuse during their relationship between 2006 and 2010. Three other women — including journalist Masechaba Ndlovu — came forward with similar allegations. Jub Jub handed himself over to police in 2023 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault. But in 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew all charges, saying there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution.

Now he's back in the spotlight for yet another violent incident. The irony is hard to miss: a man who hosted a show called Uyajola 9/9 — a reality programme about catching cheating partners — is now accused of acting out of jealous suspicion himself. The driver, who was just doing his job, reportedly escaped without injury. But the case raises questions about the star's pattern of behaviour with firearms and women.

Jub Jub's legal troubles are far from over. Monday's court appearance will set the stage for what comes next. If convicted on the current charges, he could face serious jail time — especially given his prior criminal record. For now, he remains in police custody.
