Serena and Venus Williams are bringing their legendary doubles partnership back to Wimbledon.

The All England Club confirmed Tuesday that the sisters have received a wild card invitation to compete in the women's doubles draw at this year's tournament, which starts in less than two weeks.

The move comes after 44-year-old Serena recently returned to competition following nearly four years away from professional tennis. She played her first match back at Queen's Club in London last week, winning a doubles first-round match alongside 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko.

Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has been playing sporadically in recent years.

The Williams sisters have won 14 Grand Slam titles together in doubles, including six at Wimbledon. Their first Wimbledon doubles title came in 2000 and their most recent in 2016.

They last played doubles together at the 2022 US Open, where they lost in the first round. That match ended a 4½-year gap since their previous partnership.

Serena and Mboko were forced to withdraw from Queen's Club after their opening win because Mboko injured her knee in a singles match. Serena was also scheduled to play doubles with Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open on Tuesday.

Serena hasn't ruled out a return to singles either. Wimbledon left one of the eight women's singles wild card spots as "to be announced," fuelling speculation she could take it.

Recent French Open finalist Maja Chwalinska received a singles wild card, along with six British women: Harriet Dart, Alicia Dudeney, Hannah Klugman, Mika Stojsavljevic, Katie Swan, and Mimi Xu.

In men's singles, wild cards went to Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov, plus four British players: Jacob Fearnley, Arthur Fery, Jack Pinnington Jones, and Toby Samuel.

Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam champion who has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals twice, plans to retire at the end of the year. Dimitrov, now ranked No. 169, led eventual champion Jannik Sinner two sets to love in the round of 16 last year before retiring early in the third set with a torn pectoral muscle.

Two more men's singles wild card spots remain open.

Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist who reached the quarterfinals at this year's French Open, was left off the list. He's ranked No. 49 but was outside the top 100 when Wimbledon's entry list was set. He could still gain direct entry into the main draw depending on withdrawals.

In men's doubles, a wild card went to the pairing of Alexander Bublik and Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios was a singles finalist at Wimbledon in 2022.
