Ayo Akerele missed his 8:30 a.m. flight from Toronto to Atlanta in 2015 because he ran through a security door and set off an alarm. But he says that delay wasn't a mistake — it was God's plan.

Akerele arrived at Toronto Pearson Airport at 6:30 a.m., confident he would clear customs in an hour. Instead, he found an enormous crowd. By 8:00 a.m., he was still inching forward. At 8:25 a.m., he was finally cleared — and he ran.

He pushed through a security door, triggering an alarm. Surveillance cameras flagged his behaviour. US and Canadian security personnel intercepted him at the boarding tunnel. He handed over his passport and boarding pass, but they told him he'd missed the flight.

"But you can't force your way through a secured area," one officer said. "Sir, we're sorry, but you can't board this flight. You've missed it."

Akerele was frustrated and exhausted. But the officers rebooked him on the 10:30 a.m. flight at no extra cost. As he sat waiting, he thought: What if they'd opened fire on me?

He boarded the later flight and arrived safely in Atlanta. After collecting his luggage, he headed to the pickup area. That's when a man approached him — visibly distressed, sick, weary, and unkempt.

Akerele felt a strong prompting to engage with him. The man shared his struggles and health challenges. Right there in the public space, Akerele held his hands and prayed for him.

"I can feel the touch of God in my body," the man said.

When they finished, the man testified that something had changed. Akerele gave him a couple of his books. They exchanged contact information and parted ways.

Then Akerele says he heard a clear message from God: "I allowed you to miss your flight because of this man." Tears filled his eyes.

Akerele now sees delays and detours as divine appointments. He quotes Romans 8:28: "All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose."
