The Mshel Hutu Exclusive N-Trillion Golf Resort Estate in Abuja has officially been commissioned, setting a new benchmark for luxury living in Nigeria. This sprawling estate boasts world-class recreational and lifestyle facilities, including a nine-hole golf course, a sports complex with ten areas, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a 2.7-kilometer road network.
“Our idea for Mshel Hutu Exclusive is to create a community where people enjoy their best lives,” said Arc. Barka Umaru Mshelia, Group Managing Director and CEO of Mshel Homes, at the commissioning ceremony.
The estate's 2.7-kilometer road network and sports complex are the first of its kind in Nigeria, marking a significant investment in the country's housing market. Mshelia revealed that the idea for the estate was born out of a vision to combine quality housing with world-class infrastructure under a ‘live, play and relax’ concept. He noted that land acquisition was the most daunting task, citing demolition exercises by the Area Council, financial constraints, and other obstacles.
In its first phase, the estate has already completed residential blocks and key amenities, including a golf course, a sports complex, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Mshelia attributed this feat to resilience, teamwork, and the commitment of the construction crew, including Engineer Evans, along with development partners and investors.
The name ‘Hutu’ is derived from the Hausa word for ‘rest’, reflecting the company's ambition to build a serene, resort-style environment where residents can live, work, play, and unwind. Mshelia emphasized that the current rollout is only the first of several planned phases, with additional facilities and housing to be introduced in future stages.
MoFI raises N250bn for affordable mortgages. The National Coordinator of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated Real Estate Investment Fund (MREIF), Mr Sani Yakubu, said the Federal Government has raised N250 billion under its N1 trillion Mortgage and Housing Support Programme. Yakubu disclosed that the fund has financed roughly 2,000 mortgages across the country, with monthly disbursements averaging N10 billion.
According to him, the N250 billion tranche includes N150 billion from the Federal Government and N100 billion invested by 22 financial institutions, comprising 11 commercial banks and 10 mortgage banks. He urged prospective homeowners to visit mreif.com.ng to access the platform, describing the Ministry's presence at the event as twofold: celebrating Nigerian entrepreneurship and raising awareness of affordable mortgage financing options.
An investor in the project, Emmanuel, hailed the transformation of the estate, recalling that the site had no proper access road in its early stages. “There was no access road. He turned this place into what we see today. I advise anyone interested to commit before the project reaches its full potential,” he said.
