Co-Parenting Reality Check

Actress Ellen Adarna has spilled the tea on her co-parenting journey with ex-partner John Lloyd Cruz, revealing that despite the challenges, they've managed to keep their son, Elias, at the center of their parenting efforts.

Adarna, who spoke to Melai Cantiveros-Francisco on her show Kuan On One, admitted that co-parenting can be tough at times. 'Naa juy challenges ang co-parenting,' she said, which translates to 'co-parenting can be challenging at times.'

According to Adarna, disagreements are bound to happen when two people have different ideas on how things should be done. 'Usahay maglagot ka nga, dili kay gusto niya mao ning mahitabo, ikaw gusto nimo nga mao ning mahitabo,' she explained, which translates to 'sometimes you start to feel angry because what he wants to happen is different from what you want to happen.'

But despite these differences, Adarna said she and Cruz have always made a conscious effort not to let misunderstandings turn into fights. 'But dili na namo paabton nga mag-away mi, kami ni JL,' she said, which translates to 'but JL and I do not allow these situations to escalate into fights.'

Adarna also spoke fondly of their seven-year-old son, Elias, whom she described as a remarkably well-behaved child. 'Buyag-buyag, si Elias no, wa juy problema nga bata,' she said, which translates to 'Elias is a very good boy, we don’t have a problem with him.'

Co-Parenting Success Story

Despite the challenges, Adarna and Cruz have managed to keep their co-parenting relationship on track. According to Adarna, the key to their success is putting Elias first and making sure they're both on the same page.

'Kami ni John Lloyd makaingon jud mi nga unsay gibuhat nato nga buotan man kaayo ni,' she said, which translates to 'sometimes, John Lloyd and I find ourselves wondering what we did right to deserve such a good boy.'

Adarna also shared that speaking to Elias in Bisaya has been the most effective way to discipline him. 'Bisaya ra gyud diay ang tambal,' she quipped, which translates to 'speaking in Bisaya is the best way to do it.'

No Financial Obligations

In a surprising revelation, Adarna clarified that John Lloyd Cruz is not obligated to pay for her personal expenses, emphasizing that his responsibilities are limited to supporting their son.

'Di man ko obligation niya. Di man mi minyo ni JL. Wa man siyay labot nako,' she said, which translates to 'I am not part of his obligation. I am not married to JL. He has nothing to do with me.'

Co-Parenting Reality Checks

Adarna's candid admission about the challenges of co-parenting comes as a relief to many Filipino parents who are facing similar struggles. By keeping their co-parenting relationship on track and prioritizing Elias's needs, Adarna and Cruz are a shining example of what it means to put love first.
