Springboks Gear Up for Argentina Test as Winning Streak Continues

The Springboks’ 11th consecutive win over Wales on Saturday was a statement performance in the Nations Championship, but team manager Rassie Erasmus knows that the real challenge lies ahead.

“Argentina is going to be tough – like Wales they’ve had our number a few times and our biggest loss was to them since we’ve been together from 2018,” Erasmus commented.

The team now has a brief break before a squad of 26 will travel to South America to prepare for a one-off game against Argentina. This clash in Buenos Aires on August 8 (kick off at 21:00) will precede the All Blacks’ tour to South Africa, and Erasmus also confirmed that a group of 15 or 16 players will remain at home with some coaches to prepare for Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry against New Zealand in August and September.

And while the Springboks have made an unbeaten start to the season, they have yet to really fire on all cylinders. “I think we’ve got a little bit better in every game of the Nations Championship, but as we’ve been rotating, it does take cohesion away,” Erasmus said.

Injury updates are also a concern for the team, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu set to be part of the Springbok squad selected to face Argentina after the flyhalf recovered from an ankle injury. It’s also hoped that Siya Kolisi will have overcome a hamstring injury, with the Springbok skipper another player who is in need of some game time.

Handre Pollard is said to be fully fit, but it remains to be seen if he will travel to Buenos Aires.

The Springboks’ perfect record in the Nations Championship has been built on the strong performances of players like Siya Kolisi and Handre Pollard, who have led the team to victory in all their matches so far.

And with the All Blacks tour to South Africa set to kick off in September, the Springboks know that they will have to be at the top of their game if they are to take on the best of New Zealand.
