The Hollard Daredevil Run is back, and South African gentlemen are about to get very cheeky. In a bold move to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancers, men across the country will be donning their purple Speedos and takkies for a 5km run in their respective cities.
This year's edition is set to kick off on Friday, 23 October 2026, at 15:00 at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg. Men can either conquer the run solo or invite their friends, family, and colleagues to join in on the fun. Although the main event will be held in Joburg, men from all over the country can register and run on their own routes.
One in 16 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15 to 35. It affects approximately one in every 2,000 males. All proceeds from the Daredevil Run will go towards funding prostate and testicular cancer screening for men from underserved South African communities, as well as patient support and promoting public awareness around these diseases.
Registration for the run opens next Wednesday, 1 July 2026, and tickets will cost R200 each. Tickets can be purchased on either Hollard's official website or Ticketpro, and participants will receive a complimentary purple Speedo to don on the day of the run.
The proceeds from the Daredevil Run have been used to make a significant impact in the fight against cancer. Last year's edition, under the tagline 'Lekker Balls; Lekker Life', raised a whopping R1.2 million, which was donated to both the Cancer Association of South Africa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
So, are you ready to pull a ballsy move and help beat cancer? Then be ready to wear your purple Speedo with pride this October!
'Lekker Balls; Lekker Life' is this year's Daredevil Run tagline, reminding runners that it's all about living life to the fullest.
In an unexpected twist, the Hollard Daredevil Run is not just about the run – it's also about the journey. By participating, men are not only raising money for a good cause, but also creating a sense of camaraderie and community. As one of the runners said, 'It's about pushing your boundaries, taking risks, and having a blast while doing it.'
