The single sharpest fact in one or two punchy sentences. Who did what, where, when, and why it matters. Not a summary of everything — the one thing that makes someone stop scrolling. A reader who only reads this paragraph must understand what happened. Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Trans Nzoia County boycotted the commissioning of the newly completed County Assembly's Wellness and Committee Services Centre by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in a sharp display of power politics. Governor George Natembeya hinted at taking matters into his own hands.

The ceremony, which was held on Thursday, was attended by the CS, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and Principal Administrative Secretary Bervely Opwora.

But the event was marred by the absence of key MCAs, with at least 14 seats in the house unoccupied after Deputy Speaker Obed Mwale and 13 other MCAs skipped the address.

According to sources, the MCAs who boycotted the event cited a lack of consultation in the invitation. 'The speaker handled the whole issue, and a few MCAs allied with the broad-based government. The invitation is an insult to the governor,' said one of the MCAs who requested anonymity.

The boycott is the latest development in the power struggle between Governor Natembeya and Speaker Andrew Wanyonyi. Governor Natembeya criticized the Speaker for inviting CS Murkomen to officiate the opening of the project, saying it was a snub to his administration.

'The Speaker of the County Assembly knows very well that the County Government of Trans-Nzoia funded the new County Assembly Centre,' Governor Natembeya tweeted. 'Our project will be officially commissioned in a grand ceremony this September. We look forward to celebrating this milestone together with the people of Trans-Nzoia.'

The county government has confirmed that they will go ahead with their own commissioning ceremony in September, which Governor Natembeya hinted would be a grand affair.

The situation in Trans Nzoia County is now on a knife-edge, with the MCAs and the Governor engaged in a bitter power struggle. President William Ruto is set to inspect national government development projects in the area, but it remains to be seen whether the boycott will impact his visit.
