President Bola Tinubu has marked the 66th birthday of his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, with a heartfelt tribute, calling her his "truest friend and confidante." In a message shared on his verified X account, the President highlighted his wife's remarkable patience, courage, compassion, and steadfast support throughout their life together.
Tinubu described Oluremi as the woman who has stood by him through all seasons, bearing his burdens and offering counsel during difficult times. He invoked a Yoruba proverb, saying, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀” — a good wife is her husband’s crown. She embodies the biblical description of a virtuous woman, remaining a constant source of strength and understanding.
"The thoughts I couldn't put into words somehow found their way to you," the President wrote, emphasizing her intuitive support. He recounted moments of uncertainty, stating, "In difficult times, when the future was uncertain, you stayed calm beside me and prayed with me."
The First Lady’s willingness to offer honest feedback, even when it's difficult, is what earns her the title of "truest friend," according to the President. "I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I'd rather not hear it," he admitted.
Beyond her role as a supportive partner, Tinubu also celebrated Oluremi's dedication to their family. He acknowledged her significant role in raising their children and grandchildren, noting that her values of faith and kindness have profoundly shaped them. "Our home bears the lasting imprint of your devotion. Our children and grandchildren have grown beneath the shelter of your prayers," he stated.
President Tinubu shone a light on Oluremi's extensive humanitarian work, recalling her impactful initiatives. He mentioned her longstanding commitment through the New Era Foundation, which she established during his time as governor of Lagos State, and her current efforts with the Renewed Hope Initiative. These programs have consistently touched lives across the nation, offering hope and support to many.
"Nigerians know you for your compassion, kindness, generosity of spirit and steadfast faith," Tinubu remarked, witnessing firsthand how she quietly and consistently helps those in need. The President commended Oluremi's advocacy for individuals affected by tuberculosis and other diseases. He described her as a compassionate advocate and a determined champion whose concern transcends tribal, regional, or religious divides. "For you, compassion has never recognised the boundaries of tribe, region or religion," he affirmed.
Reflecting on their shared journey, Tinubu acknowledged that the difficult decisions and unseen sacrifices made over the years have only strengthened their bond.
