Kwankwaso Warns 2027 Governors Seeking Re-election: You're in for a Surprise

Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stark warning to governors seeking re-election in 2027. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series in Abuja, Kwankwaso said these governors will be disappointed if they rely on rigging to secure victory.

Kwankwaso argued that Nigerians have valid reasons to demand better governance due to insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and deteriorating public services. He noted that citizens are increasingly conscious of their political choices and won't automatically support governors and politicians seeking re-election due to their control of state structures.

The former governor of Kano State, who served from 1999 to 2003 and again from 2011 to 2015, recalled that his administration prioritized education by providing access to primary, secondary, and tertiary education for qualified residents. Kwankwaso also introduced measures to address the Almajiri challenge and provided educational infrastructure, including hostels, for students.

He criticized the movement of politicians from different parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in search of political advantage. Kwankwaso expressed confidence that Nigerians will ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections and urged political leaders to listen to citizens and accept the need for change where government has failed to meet people's expectations.

A former member of the APC, Kwankwaso has been a vocal critic of the party's leadership, accusing them of not addressing the needs of Nigerians. He has called for a shift in power dynamics, saying that the APC's dominance is not sustainable in the face of rising discontent among Nigerians.

Kwankwaso's comments come at a time when the build-up to the 2027 elections is gaining momentum. His warning to governors seeking re-election is a stark reminder of the challenges they face in securing votes from an increasingly disillusioned electorate.
