The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been bestowed with the prestigious traditional title of Ugoeze of Anambra. This significant honour, conferred by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka, is a testament to her contributions to national development and her unwavering support for her husband, President Bola Tinubu.
The chieftaincy title was formally presented to Mrs. Tinubu on Thursday, during her first official one-day visit to Anambra State. Her visit was not just ceremonial; she also used the occasion to officially flag off the National Community Food Bank program in the state. This initiative, which aims to tackle child malnutrition, particularly in the South-East states, marks the completion of the Renewed Hope Initiative's national rollout across all six geopolitical zones of the country.
Speaking at the event, Senator Oluremi Tinubu stressed the importance of setting aside political differences to address the pressing needs of Nigerians. Addressing the enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Alex Ekwueme Square, she declared the completion of the zonal rollout of the food bank program a mission accomplished, expressing optimism for the future of Nigerian children. She highlighted that the South-East leg of the intervention should galvanise a renewed, multi-level focus on child nutrition nationwide.
Mrs. Tinubu also took time to acknowledge the efforts of the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, and his wife, commending their policies and programmes as clear indicators of the governor's progressive ideological stance. The partnership between the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government, according to Governor Soludo, is fostering progress and building a robust framework that ensures no citizen is left behind.
Beyond the food bank initiative, the First Lady inaugurated a new ICT Experience Centre at the Federal Polytechnic Oko, an initiative supported by the RHI/TETFUND. While interacting with students, she encouraged them to explore constructive applications of technology, especially artificial intelligence. She also urged them to join environmental societies to develop practical solutions for ecological challenges, underscoring the Renewed Hope Initiative's commitment to advancing digital learning in Nigeria.
Adding another layer to her impactful visit, Senator Tinubu oversaw the distribution of empowerment items from the state government to 5,000 beneficiaries. She further announced a financial grant of ₦100,000 for each beneficiary, providing direct support to bolster their ventures and livelihoods.
This visit by the First Lady underscores the federal government's engagement with states on critical development issues, blending traditional recognition with concrete social and educational interventions.
