One person is dead and four others are in serious condition after a shooting in Sydney's south-west. The incident occurred in Canley Heights, where police found multiple wounded men.

The shooting happened around 8:30pm, with two men presenting to Liverpool Hospital and another two men presenting to Fairfield Hospital. The deceased man hasn't been identified yet. Police have established a crime scene and they're investigating the incident.

And in other news, Australia's shadow treasurer, Tim Wilson, is set to deliver a post-budget address to the National Press Club today. Wilson will accuse the Labor government of a 'bad faith budget' and he'll launch a campaign called 'stand with small' to support small businesses.

Wilson says the budget, handed down last Tuesday, punishes entrepreneurs and it inflates costs for households and small businesses. He also takes aim at the impact of capital gains tax changes on businesses and startups. The shadow treasurer believes the budget is a 'narrative over numbers' and that the treasurer is the 'inflation arsonist cosplaying as the firefighter'. He won't back down from his criticism.

'The innovators, disruptors, risk takers and builders of this country have worked this prime minister out: he’s the guy in that group assignment that does none of the work, but still takes the grade,' Wilson will say. He doesn't mince words when it comes to the government's budget.

The 'stand with small' campaign promises a dedicated federal small business act with a single national definition for the sector. It also aims to set up legal maximum payment terms to small businesses from government and big business. The Coalition will consult on new minimum requirements for government procurement that must come from small business. They're committed to making a change.

Meanwhile, the federal infrastructure minister, Catherine King, says the reaction to the federal budget is going 'as we expected it to'. King believes it's the government's job to explain the changes and the rationale behind them to the country. She doesn't think they've done a bad job so far. King won't apologize for the government's decisions.

Afterpay has bought the naming rights to Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena, expanding the reach of its payments plan in a multimillion-dollar deal. The 2000 Olympics-era Sydney Showgrounds venue will be renamed Afterpay Arena later this year. Under the new naming rights deal, the 21,000-capacity venue is also set to offer Afterpay’s flexible payments across ticket purchases. It's a big deal for the company.

The New South Wales government says planning is under way for the next stage of its commitment to introduce safe staffing levels in all public hospitals. In the coming months, the next phase of the Safe Staffing Levels rollout will begin. It will ensure a minimum of one nurse to four patients for morning and afternoon shifts in general medical, surgical and specialty wards. They're taking it one step at a time.

Former governor general Peter Hollingworth has died at the age of 91. Hollingworth was appointed Australia’s 23rd governor general by the Howard government in June 2001. He stood down less than two years later following controversy around his handling of church sexual abuse reports. He couldn't stay in the role.

Hollingworth had been Anglican archbishop of Brisbane for 11 years from 1990, and in 2003 a board of inquiry into the handling of complaints of sexual abuse found that Hollingworth failed to act on knowledge of sexual abuse. He allowed two clergy to remain in the church despite knowing they had sexually assaulted children. It's a dark chapter in his history.

The current Anglican archbishop of Brisbane, The Most Reverend Jeremy Greaves, has acknowledged the past failings of the church. 'Anglican Church of Southern Queensland acknowledges with deep regret the past failings of the church. Anglican Church of Southern Queensland apologises unreservedly to those who have suffered abuse, distress, isolation, and harm caused by the Church’s failure to respond with integrity and care when it was needed most,' Greaves said. He's taking responsibility for the church's actions.
