Prof. Babalola, a member of the University of Ibadan Ad Hoc Committee on Support for Oriire Rescued Abductees, said the donation was a result of voluntary contributions from academic staff and friends.

The staff of the University of Ibadan have shown remarkable solidarity with the victims of the Oyo school attack. On Wednesday, they donated N6 million to beneficiaries, including rescued schoolchildren, teachers, and bereaved families.

The attack, which occurred on May 15, 2026, saw over 40 schoolchildren and their teachers abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esienle.

The University of Ibadan Ad Hoc Committee on Support for Oriire Rescued Abductees, led by Prof. Ezekiel Ayoola, presented the donation at the Office of the Inspector-General of Education, Ogbomoso Zone.

The donation aims to provide sustained emotional, educational, and financial support to the victims, many of whom are still grappling with psychological trauma.

According to Prof. Ayoola, the academic community wants to reassure the victims that they have not been forgotten.

Prof. Adenike Emeke, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, and Prof. Aina Adeogun symbolically presented the donation to the beneficiaries.

Prof. Babalola said, 'We are standing with you to let you know that you are not alone. We rejoice over your safe return and pray that God will continue to strengthen you.'

Prof. Olubunmi Adisa, the Inspector-General of Education, Ogbomoso Zone, commended the University of Ibadan staff for their remarkable demonstration of compassion and social responsibility.

He said, 'The academic staff of the University of Ibadan have redefined the relationship between the town and the gown. You have set another pace in humanitarian service. With this gesture, there is hope for Nigeria.'

Prof. Jonathan Babalola, Vice-Chancellor of Bowen University, and Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, were among those who made voluntary contributions to the donation.

Prof. Ayoola commended the Federal and Oyo State governments, as well as security agencies, for their coordinated efforts that led to the rescue of the victims. He specifically praised the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy Special Forces, Nigerian Air Force Special Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Office of the National Security Adviser, and the National Counter Terrorism Centre for their roles in the rescue operation.
