"The probable causes of the crash were route violation (RTV) and speed violation (SPV). The impact of the collision led to the Peugeot J5 bus catching fire, with its front section completely burnt," the statement said.
A fatal road crash involving a truck and a commercial bus occurred at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere-J4 corridor in Ogun State early this morning. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed that the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
The crash involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with no visible registration number. According to the Sector Command, four adult male occupants were involved in the crash, with two of them dying on the spot, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
The Corps attributed the crash to route violation and excessive speeding. The impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, leaving its front section completely burnt. FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of being notified and immediately commenced traffic management. The affected lane was diverted to the alternative carriageway while efforts continued to remove the wreckage and restore free flow of traffic.
The remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary. Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and urged motorists to comply strictly with traffic regulations.
He warned against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads. "Drivers must avoid speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces. These dangerous driving behaviours remain major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian roads," Ogunjobi said.
