The single sharpest fact in one or two punchy sentences. Who did what, where, when, and why it matters. Not a summary of everything — the one thing that makes someone stop scrolling. A reader who only reads this paragraph must understand what happened.

Edith Erhunwunse, a police officer, and two others are standing trial for a N300m eviction and property damage case in Abuja. The court has issued a fresh bench warrant for her arrest due to her continued absence from proceedings.

Edith Erhunwunse was accused of being part of a group that conspired to gain unlawful entry into a property without the owner's consent. The group allegedly carted away valuables worth N300m, including cash, an international passport, and other goods.

According to the prosecution, the defendants broke into the property without a valid court order, damaged doors and other items, and removed valuables worth N300m. The prosecution further alleged that cash and other valuables were removed from the residence and taken to an unknown destination.

Justice Samira Bature, a Federal Capital Territory High Court judge, expressed concern that despite the passage of two months since the earlier order, there had been no progress in securing the defendant's appearance. The judge consequently granted the application and ordered all security agencies to arrest the third defendant wherever she may be found.

The court encouraged the parties to continue exploring an out-of-court settlement and directed them to report the outcome at the next adjourned date. The matter has been adjourned until September 29, 2026, for continuation of trial.

Meanwhile, the prosecution had alleged that Edith Erhunwunse, Cecil Osakwe, and Victor Giwa conspired to gain unlawful entry into the property without the complainant's consent. The court will now proceed with the trial without Edith Erhunwunse, who is still at large.

The Federal Government has alleged that the defendants unlawfully evicted one Asabe Waziri from her residence on Mekong Street, Maitama, Abuja, in 2022. The government further alleged that the defendants carted away valuables worth N300m and removed the complainant's international passport and other valuables from the residence.

This case has been ongoing since 2023, with the defendants facing a nine-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful eviction, and malicious damage. The court had earlier issued an order for Edith Erhunwunse's arrest, but she failed to appear. The fresh bench warrant order has been issued, and the matter will proceed without her.

The prosecution had informed the court that letters had been sent to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, but Edith Erhunwunse failed to appear. The judge cited Section 353 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and argued that the defendant had ignored court processes for over a year while the other defendants continued to attend proceedings.

Justice Bature warned the defendants that there would be no further excuses for non-appearance and adjourned the matter until September 29, 2026.
