Dennis Miracles Aboagye, one of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) outspoken communicators, has been accused of being arrested by officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the airport, with no explanation or charges provided.

Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP's General Secretary, made this claim in a Facebook post, stating that since the arrest, Aboagye's lawyers have been denied access to him, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The incident has been described by the NPP as 'intimidation' and a politically motivated move, given Aboagye's criticism of the government. 'Dennis Miracles Aboagye is one of the loudest and most effective critics of this government,' Kodua wrote.

According to Kodua, Aboagye has been an outspoken critic of the government, questioning its policies, including issues related to illegal mining (galamsey). His announcement to run for the position of National Communications Officer of the NPP just hours before his arrest further fuels the NPP's claim that this was a politically motivated move.

The NPP is demanding that EOCO either releases Dennis Miracles Aboagye immediately or puts him before a court of competent jurisdiction, as required by the Constitution. The party is also calling for unrestricted access to Aboagye's lawyers and family, as per Article 14(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

The NPP further accuses the government of targeting its members through state institutions, saying this must end.

'Let us be clear about what this is. This is intimidation,' Justin Frimpong Kodua wrote.

In a direct address to EOCO, Kodua said, 'We say to EOCO and to those directing it: institutions of state are not private weapons. Ghanaians are watching, and Ghana’s institutions will outlive this government.'

The party is urging its supporters to remain calm as the situation unfolds.
