The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up for the 2028 general elections, and aspiring National Chairman Boakye Agyarko is rallying the troops.
Agyarko met with the Upper East Regional Council of Elders and Patrons, Regional Executives, Constituency Executives and other key party stakeholders in the region. The meeting was the latest in a series of nationwide engagements by Agyarko, who outlined his vision for rebuilding and strengthening the party.
According to sources, Agyarko emphasized the need for unity, discipline, improved welfare and strategic reforms within the party. He stated that the NPP must rebuild, reunite and reposition itself to regain power, and that while Ghanaians would assess the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government based on its performance, the NPP must focus on strengthening its structures and reconnecting with its grassroots support base.
Agyarko further reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and all party stakeholders to ensure a united and effective campaign machinery ahead of the 2028 elections. He noted that the role of the National Chairman is to support and complement the Flagbearer in the collective effort to secure victory for the party.
Speaking on behalf of the regional party leadership, Upper East Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo Esq. assured Agyarko of the region’s support and commended his loyalty, dedication and longstanding service to the NPP. In response, Agyarko expressed gratitude to the regional leadership, elders, patrons, constituency executives and grassroots members for their warm reception and commitment to rebuilding the party for electoral success in 2028.
Agyarko's meeting with the Upper East Regional Council of Elders and Patrons is part of a broader effort by the NPP to engage with its stakeholders and rebuild its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections. The party faces a tough challenge in regaining power, having lost the 2024 elections to the NDC.
The NPP will need to put in a lot of work to win back the trust of Ghanaians and to reconnect with its grassroots support base. Agyarko's vision for rebuilding and strengthening the party is a crucial step in this process, and it remains to be seen whether the party can implement the necessary reforms to regain power in 2028.
