Victor Osimhen's €75m Atletico Dream Crushed
Atletico Madrid has rejected a €75m transfer offer for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray, due to financial reasons.
According to Spanish YouTube channel Club Uria, Osimhen was offered to Atletico through intermediaries, with the player also willing to take a reasonable pay cut to make the transfer happen.
The La Liga outfit informed the intermediaries that Osimhen is not currently part of their plans because they are not willing to let go of Julián Álvarez and Sørloth.
Anderlecht has made a €3.5m move for Nigerian striker Samuel Chukwueze, while Arsenal fell 3-1 to Real Betis in their final pre-season game.
Osimhen currently earns a high salary at Galatasaray, with a net income worth €15m per year. He remains under contract in Istanbul until 2029.
His willingness to reduce his earnings is easily linked to his eagerness to work under Diego Simeone. Last season, the player spoke highly of the coach after a Champions League game.
“I like him, I have always been a fan of their coach. I’ve met him a couple of times. They play aggressively and have an identity,” Osimhen said in January.
The single sharpest fact in this story is that Atletico Madrid rejected a €75m transfer offer for Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray due to financial reasons.
Osimhen’s future now seems to be linked with Álvarez’s, and it remains to be seen if Atletico will prevent Barcelona from signing the Argentine.
Osimhen had also been on Barcelona’s list as an alternative to Álvarez, but the La Liga champions have dropped that interest due to his huge salary demands.
Osimhen had joined Galatasaray on a permanent deal last summer, and his contract runs until 2029.
His salary at Galatasaray is worth €15m per year, although he is willing to take a pay cut to make the transfer happen.
Atletico has made it clear that they are not willing to let go of Julián Álvarez and Sørloth, so Osimhen is unlikely to join the club.
This means that Barcelona may now consider Osimhen as an alternative to álvarez
