A New Chapter for Baba Ijesha
Actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, better known as Baba Ijesha, has announced the birth of his son. The 52-year-old Nollywood veteran shared the news on Instagram on Monday, June 15, posting a maternity photoshoot with his wife, Luminee Omiyinka.
He wrote: “In quiet ways, in unseen ways, God has been writing a story only He could tell. We thank the Almighty for blessing us with a healthy baby boy.” The couple named their son King Kagar Omiyinka.
Baba Ijesha also praised his wife in the post, calling her “strong Jagaban” and thanking her for becoming the mother of his son. The announcement quickly drew congratulatory messages from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Just Seven Months After Prison
The baby news comes barely seven months after Baba Ijesha was released from prison in November 2025. He'd been convicted in 2022 for child sexual assault involving a 14-year-old girl.
The case shocked Nigeria. In April 2021, Baba Ijesha was arrested for allegedly molesting the minor, who was a child actress. The incident was reported by comedian and activist Princess, who'd been fostering the girl.
During the trial, the court heard that Baba Ijesha had sexually assaulted the teenager on multiple occasions at Princess's home. He was found guilty on a four-count charge, including sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court sentenced him to five years in prison. But with time already served during the trial, he was released in November 2025 after spending about four and a half years in custody.
Who Is Baba Ijesha?
Baba Ijesha, born Olanrewaju Omiyinka, is a veteran Nollywood actor known for his comic roles in Yoruba-language films. He's been in the industry for over two decades, appearing in dozens of movies. His stage name translates to "Father of Ijesha," referencing his hometown.
Before his conviction, he was a familiar face in family comedies and dramas. But the sexual assault case destroyed his public image and ended his career.
What Happens Next?
Baba Ijesha is now a free man, rebuilding his life. His wife, Luminee, stood by him throughout the trial and imprisonment. The couple married in 2022 while he was still in custody.
The birth of their son marks a personal milestone, but public reaction remains mixed. Many Nigerians still remember the details of the case. Some have offered congratulations, while others have questioned whether a convicted sex offender should receive public celebration.
For now, Baba Ijesha hasn't announced any return to acting. His Instagram post focused only on gratitude and his new role as a father.
