Lightning Strikes Swedish Amusement Park, Leaving Several Injured

A severe thunderstorm caused lightning to strike a tree at the Toselilla Sommarland amusement park in southern Sweden on Sunday.

And at least 11 people were injured in the incident, with one of them, a 45-year-old woman, being seriously hospitalised with injuries. The park reported on Facebook that there were several lightning strikes in the area, which resulted in the injuries. However, it initially said there were no serious injuries.

The public broadcaster SVT reported that the amusement park had anticipated the storm and made sure no visitors were on the rides or in the waterpark pools. However, lightning struck a tree on the site, and a group passing nearby was hit by falling debris.

Two adults and five children were treated for minor injuries, and the others, including the woman, were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Toselilla Sommarland, which translates to Tosselilla Summerland in English, is a popular amusement park in southern Sweden. It has been in operation since 1962 and features various rides, waterparks, and other attractions for visitors.

There have been no reports of how the park will proceed with future operations following the incident. However, the incident highlights the importance of taking necessary precautions during severe weather conditions.

'Today we had a severe thunderstorm over Tosselilla, which led to several lightning strikes directly in the area. This has resulted in a few people being injured,' Toselilla Sommarland said in a post to Facebook.
