The Springboks are back, and they're making some noise — literally.

A video emerged this week showing a group of Springbok players in full voice as they came out of the tunnel to head into a training session. It's another authentically South African moment that sets Siya Kolisi and his team apart.

But the real talking point this week is the team selection for Saturday's season-opener against the Barbarians.

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has handed the No 10 jersey to Quan Horn — a player who usually runs out at fullback. It's a surprise move, but centre Andre Esterhuizen, who will partner Jesse Kriel in midfield, is backing the decision.

“He’s a very good player, and he has a lot of skill and reads the game well,” said Esterhuizen. “He’s slotted into the No 10 position very well at training, and he’s been working hard, so with the support inside and outside of him, there are players who can help and guide him, and I think he’ll be good in that position.”

Esterhuizen stressed that the Boks are treating this match like a Test match, not a loose exhibition game.

“It is a Barbarians match and people think it will be a loose game, but the important thing for us is to stick to our processes as we do in every other game,” he said. “We’re treating this encounter as a Test match, and hopefully we can be successful.”

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Luan Giliomee is set to run out in his third different team in green and gold this year. The youngster has already represented the Junior Springboks and the Blitzboks, and will play at fullback for the SA 'A' team against Zimbabwe in Gqeberha on Saturday.

“I’ve been privileged enough to be in a lot of environments this year,” said Giliomee. “Thankfully I’m still healthy and I can play in this Saturday’s game.

“As a team, we’ve set standards for ourselves, and obviously we have some goals in mind, but personally I just want to go out there and perform, and hopefully I can transfer the things I’ve learned in the last two weeks from the players and coaches onto the field.”

Both matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport. The SA 'A' fixture against Zimbabwe kicks off at 12:00, while the Springboks line up against the Barbarians at 15:00.

The Springboks' season is officially underway.
