One year on, the Protecting Crew Lives (PCL) initiative has launched a survey to improve safety and working conditions for yachting crew members. The survey is a response to the brutal murder of Paige Bell, who was just 20 years old when she was killed.

The Investigation

The police report from the Royal Bahamas Police Force indicates that a homicide and suspected suicide attempt occurred on the yacht Far From It in July last year. Paige Bell's lifeless body was found with visible signs of injuries. The investigation is ongoing, with the suspect, Brigido Lara Muñoz, formally indicted and pleading not guilty.

The Protecting Crew Lives Survey

The PCL survey aims to gather data on the operational, contractual, and psychological challenges faced by superyacht crew. The survey is voluntary and anonymous, with respondents able to choose whether to provide their details. The PCL platform provides a central resource hub for crew members, offering information on crew rights, safe and compliant employment practices, and access to support services.

The Fight for Safer Working Conditions

The PCL initiative was established in the aftermath of Paige Bell's death to advocate for safer working environments for crew. Chantal Johnson, PCL co-founder, said the survey will create a collective and undeniable voice for crew members. 'We want to push for industry change and provide a platform for crew to speak out about their experiences,' she said.

The organisation has thanked Bell's family for their support in creating meaningful change in their daughter's memory.
