DA LES, real name Leslie Mampe, has thanked his partner and baby mama Aurea Alexander for standing by him after his stroke two years ago. The 'North God' – known for his 'All White' Bryanston house parties – suffered a health setback on his 40th birthday. DA LES spoke to 947, opening up about his life in the two years since his stroke. The 41-year-old claimed that the stress of losing loved ones, including his best friend AKA, or Kiernan Forbes, and his father, Leslie Mampe Senior, took a toll on his health. He revealed that he has been dealing with the loss of two close family members.
On his 40th birthday – 26 July – South Africans were alerted to the news of his stroke, which took place hours before his scheduled birthday party. DA LES told radio host Thabo 'Thankyou' Thabethe that his family, partner Aurea Alexander, and three children, two daughters and a son, had saved his life. "They got me out, they kept me going," he said. He added that the traumatic incident had "taught me that I must care for the people that love me. It's life-changing".
Alexander, who has been dating the rapper on and off for 15 years, jokingly added that she was "still not married" and waiting for her wedding ring. DA LES quickly responded: "It's happening….very very soon". When asked how close they are to getting married, he remained tight-lipped.
ROCKY ROMANCE DA LES and Aurea Alexander's relationship has not been without its fair share of celebrity drama. The social media influencer publicly accused the rapper of having an affair with her best friend in 2016. The drama played out on X [formerly Twitter]. Fast forward a few years, and rumours emerged that DA LES had ended his friendship with the late rapper AKA after the latter was reportedly linked to Alexander.
In 2020, rumours of a rift were intensified after Da LES released his single Gucci Snakes, which boasted the lyrics: "Nas try to bite your soul just to take your place. Try to f your baby mama to see how it tastes". People took it as evidence that he and AKA had a falling out. Neither AKA nor Alexander addressed the claims. LES later appeared on Lasizwe's YouTube show Drink or Tell The Truth in 2021, where he clarified the song's meaning.
He told Lasizwe, "I am glad you asked me this question. Number one, that track was never about AKA, and that's period. Number two, don't believe everything people say. And number three, I love my family with all my heart. So I just decided to choose a path of family, and I got a new kid on the way".
He expressed his love for his family, including his family with Aurea.
