President Bola Tinubu's achievements will drown out his critics and guarantee his victory in 2027 — that's the confident prediction from his Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
Speaking Tuesday at a Contact and Sensitisation Retreat in Sokoto organised by the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives, Matawalle accused the President's opponents of flooding the airwaves with lies and propaganda.
"Those attacking President Tinubu with lies and propaganda will be disappointed. His achievements and commitment to national development will speak for themselves in 2027," Matawalle said.
The minister listed security gains, economic reforms, and support for critical sectors as proof of strong leadership. He said the administration has strengthened the armed forces and other security agencies, leading to major wins against insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
"President Tinubu inherited serious security and governance challenges, but he has shown courage and determination in addressing them. His administration continues to invest in security, infrastructure, education and human capital development," he added.
Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State, was appointed minister in 2023 after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. He has been a vocal defender of the administration's security policies, particularly in the North-West where banditry and kidnapping remain rampant.
The retreat drew 58 leaders of community groups, associations, and ambassadors from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna states. Yusuf Abubakar, the lead convener of the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives, said the event was designed to deepen grassroots support and showcase the administration's achievements.
"Our objective is to mobilise support by educating Nigerians on the President's policies, reforms and development agenda," Abubakar said. He commended Matawalle for backing mobilisation efforts across the region.
Matawalle also took aim at what he called deliberate efforts by some political actors to mislead Nigerians and discredit the government. "It's unfortunate that some individuals have chosen to spread misinformation and negative narratives despite the administration's efforts to promote unity, peace and progress," he said.
He urged young people not to let themselves be used for political propaganda that could cause division and instability. "Our youths must reject falsehood and focus on initiatives that promote national development, peace and social harmony," he added.
Tinubu hasn't formally declared his intention to run for a second term, but political camps across the North-West and other regions have begun early mobilisation. The President faces mounting challenges including a weak naira, high inflation, and persistent insecurity — issues his critics say could hurt his re-election prospects.
Matawalle's message is clear: wait until 2027, and the results will speak for themselves.
