A video screaming that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched an attack on Vice President Sara Duterte is a lie. Pure and simple.
The clip, posted on June 12 by the channel "PHILIPPINE TRENDING NEWS," has racked up over 17,960 views, 470 likes, and 80 comments. Dios ko po! Delikado na si VP Sara!" — but none of it's true.
On the day the claim was posted, Duterte was actually attending the Philippine Independence Day commemoration in Davao City. She was sharing updates about her activities, not hiding from any NBI raid. There are zero reports from authorities or credible news outlets backing up the claim. Even Duterte's own camp hasn't said a word about any attack.
This isn't the first time this channel has pushed fake news. The same account posted a nearly identical video on October 13, 2025, with a similar thumbnail and claim. That one got over 48,634 views, 2,000 likes, and 380 comments before it was debunked. The channel, which has over 544,000 subscribers, describes itself as providing "news and updates" on Philippine politics. But its history shows a consistent pattern of pro-Duterte, anti-Marcos content — and a willingness to bend the truth.
So why now? The video dropped just days before June 18, the first day of the pre-trial conference for Duterte's impeachment proceedings. She's facing charges that include making grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his family. That threat came during a midnight virtual press conference on November 23, 2024, where she said she had "talked to someone" who would ensure that if she were killed, the Marcoses and former House speaker Martin Romualdez would be assassinated.
The NBI has been involved in the case. In April, during the House justice committee's final impeachment hearing, the NBI said it found a "reasonable certainty of conviction" against Duterte for inciting to sedition and multiple counts of grave threats. The bureau filed criminal complaints against her in February 2025. But that's a far cry from an "attack" — it's just the legal process doing its job.
Duterte's public outburst in November came after her chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez, was detained on House premises. Lopez had been cited in contempt for giving vague answers to lawmakers' questions and for "undue interference" in a House probe into the Vice President's alleged misuse of public funds.
Rappler has previously debunked similar fake claims about Duterte — including false reports that the Supreme Court dismissed her impeachment, that she would be proclaimed president due to Marcos health rumors, and that the Commission on Audit had cleared her of fund misuse. This latest video is just more of the same.
So no, the NBI didn't attack VP Sara. The video is disinformation, plain and simple. And with her impeachment trial now underway, expect more of these lies to surface. Don't fall for them.
