Lagos Launches $5,000 Climate Grants for Youth

Young people in Lagos can now apply for grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 under the Lagos Youth Climate Action Fund, an initiative supported by the Lagos State Government and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Youth groups, consisting of individuals aged 15 to 24 years, can receive microgrants to implement climate action projects across Lagos State. The grants will be used to fund innovative projects that contribute to making Lagos greener, cleaner, and more resilient.

Applicants are required to register for a pre-launch webinar, where details on eligibility and application procedures will be explained. The webinar is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Action Fund

To apply for the grant, interested applicants must:

  • Attend the webinar to receive guidance on the grant application process and project eligibility
  • Prepare a youth-led climate action proposal that addresses environmental challenges in Lagos after the official application portal opens

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, encouraged young people to take advantage of the opportunity. He emphasized that the initiative aims to equip cities with new ideas from young people, support them through small grants, and strengthen youth participation in advancing local climate priorities.
