You know the state of insecurity in Nigeria, and Sokoto state is no exception. The Sokoto State Government has just distributed 62 armoured vehicles to strengthen security operations in the state. These vehicles include armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and hundreds of motorcycles.

The vehicles, which will be deployed to various security agencies, are part of the state's Operation Fight Terrorism initiative. Governor Ahmad Aliyu unveiled the vehicles at a ceremony in Sokoto and noted that they will improve mobility and response time for security personnel.

The state government spent over ₦27 billion on the vehicles, which they believe will help to curb banditry and other security threats in the state. Governor Aliyu also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in the fight against banditry.

But the distribution of the vehicles is just one part of the state's security plan. The government has also established a Community Security Guards Corps and equipped it with 40 security vehicles to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.

According to Governor Aliyu, the state government has also constructed five housing units each for the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), spoke at the event and highlighted the importance of mobility in the fight against banditry. He noted that criminal groups often operate in difficult terrain and that the deployment of the new vehicles will improve the operational capacity of security agencies.

General Musa urged personnel assigned to the vehicles to remain proactive and take decisive action against bandits whenever they encounter them during operations. He emphasized that sustained collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments, security agencies, and local communities is crucial in tackling insecurity.

The vehicles will be distributed to the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as security personnel providing protection for the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project.

Governor Aliyu's administration has been working to strengthen security in the state, and the distribution of the vehicles is a step in that direction.
