Plateau State Governor Appoints Top Military Retirees to Strengthen Security

The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has made significant changes to the state's security architecture. He has appointed retired Brig.-Gen. Nash Yakubu as the Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, the state-owned security outfit. Yakubu has a distinguished military career, having retired after 35 years of service. He has participated in several local and international operations, including those linked to the MASSOB and IPOB crises, peacekeeping assignments in Sierra Leone and Sudan, as well as deployments in Nigeria's North-East.

The governor congratulated Yakubu on his new appointment, urging him to bring his experience and professionalism to advance the administration's vision of a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Plateau State.

Mutfwang has also redeployed the Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, retired Brig.-Gen. Gakji Shipi Goshwe, as Coordinator of the Safe School Programme. Goshwe has served in various capacities, including as the governor's Special Adviser on Security. The appointments take immediate effect and are aimed at strengthening the state's security framework, enhancing the protection of lives and property, and reinforcing safety measures in schools. Plateau has been one of Nigeria's major insecurity flashpoints, with recurring attacks and reprisal killings in several communities.

Governor Mutfwang has also appointed retired Maj.-Gen. Bala A. Isandu as Special Adviser on Security. Isandu has an impressive background, having served as Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence and holding leadership positions at the Defence Intelligence Agency. He is expected to bring his expertise to bear in advancing the state's security initiatives.

The governor's reshuffle is part of efforts to address the state's security challenges and bring a measure of stability to the region.
