You might not have heard about the latest shake-up in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), but it's got a lot of implications for Nigerian politics. The PDP has just dissolved its entire youth support network, and it's calling on new, qualified groups to register and revalidate.

The decision is reportedly based on the need to reorganise and strengthen youth mobilisation within the party. According to a publication by Persecondnews, a letter from the PDP National Youth Leader, Amb. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, states that all existing youth support groups are dissolved, and fresh applications from qualified Nigerian support groups across the country are invited.

The exercise, which is scheduled to hold from June 19 to July 3, 2026, aims to establish a more organised framework for grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across the country. Interested groups can obtain and submit application forms through the Office of the National Youth Leader at the PDP National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, or through the designated email channel.

As part of the exercise, each applicant must be endorsed by two guarantors who are members of the PDP National Executive Committee. This is not the first time the PDP has taken drastic measures to reorganise its youth wing; recall the controversy surrounding the party's leadership a few years ago.

The PDP's move comes at a time when political parties in Nigeria are reviewing their strategies to connect with the youth population. The development has sparked excitement and anxiety within party ranks, and only time will tell what the implications will be for the party's future.

The PDP National Youth Leader has called on young Nigerians to take advantage of this opportunity to be part of the party's reorganisation and revalidation exercise.

The PDP is seeking to strengthen youth mobilisation and grassroots engagement across the country through this revalidation exercise.

Persecondnews reports that Amb. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki signed the directive, which was obtained by the publication at the 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and inauguration of the 2026–2030 NEC, held in Abuja.
