Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has told newly deployed National Youth Service Corps members to reject any role in electoral malpractice as Nigeria gears up for another election cycle.

The governor gave the charge on Monday at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Gateway Stadium, Sagamu, while declaring open the 2026 Batch “B” Stream I orientation course. He was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Wasiu Isiaka.

“Don't allow yourselves to be used as instruments of electoral malpractice, violence, misinformation, or any activity capable of undermining our democratic process,” Abiodun said.

He also warned corps members against actions that could expose them to criminals: letting strangers use their phones, allowing unknown people to transact through their bank accounts, boarding vehicles from unapproved spots, accepting rides from unfamiliar persons, or taking large gifts from questionable sources.

“As educated individuals, you play a vital role in our collective security architecture. If you see something, say something,” the governor stated.

The governor congratulated the corps members for finishing their academic programmes and getting mobilised for national service. He described the moment as a major milestone and proof of their hard work.

Abiodun praised the NYSC scheme for lasting more than five decades, calling it one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for national integration and youth development.

He said the orientation programme is designed to teach leadership, citizenship, entrepreneurship, teamwork, security awareness, and community development skills. He urged the corps members to take part in all camp activities.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda. He listed several youth-focused initiatives: the Ogun State Job Portal, support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone, the Gateway International Airport and Aerotropolis Project, and digital innovation programmes under Ogun TechHub.

Abiodun assured the corps members that the government would protect lives and property. He asked them to report suspicious activities and challenges to camp authorities and security agencies promptly.

He also urged them to be law-abiding, build good relationships with host communities, and avoid anything that could disturb peace, security, or social stability.

The governor thanked the Ogun State NYSC management, security agencies, camp officials, medical personnel, and other stakeholders for organising the orientation programme successfully.

He wished the corps members a rewarding experience and said the service year would open new doors of opportunity, personal growth, and fulfilment.
