Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State in December 2025. Two members of his team, Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Latif' Ayodele, tragically lost their lives in the accident, while Joshua himself sustained minor injuries.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been investigating the crash since its occurrence. According to the Director-General of the NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., the final report on the accident will be released to the public within the next 30 to 60 days. The report will include findings from the investigation, which the NSIB has now completed and sent to relevant stakeholders for their observations.
'The report on Anthony Joshua's accident should be out to the public in the next 30 to 60 days. We have sent our findings to the appropriate quarters as required by the law. It's after this that we can then release it to the public,' Badeh said in a virtual meeting with transport journalists.
The NSIB has expressed some dissatisfaction with the level of cooperation received from the Nigeria Police during the investigation. According to Badeh, while the police did provide some assistance, the NSIB had expected more from the force. This is especially as the NSIB's work is focused on preventing future accidents rather than apportioning blame, which is the typical role of the police in road traffic accident investigations.
Joshua returned to the ring last month, defeating Kristian Prenga by second-round knockout in a fight that he dedicated to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele.
The NSIB is still awaiting statutory funding from some agencies in the transport sector. These include three percent from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and six percent from the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has, however, continued to meet its obligations to the NSIB.
