NECO disowns fake recruitment portals, warns teachers against paying fraudsters

The National Examinations Council, NECO, has alerted the public to fake online recruitment portals designed to deceive teachers seeking appointment as examination supervisors for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, Internal. The portals demand payments or personal details under the guise of recruiting supervisors.

NECO Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, issued a statement on Tuesday warning members of the public, particularly teachers, to disregard websites demanding payments or personal details under the guise of recruiting supervisors. This practice is false, illegal, and unauthorised.

‘NECO wishes to inform the public that we do not request any payment from teachers applying to serve as examination supervisors in the forthcoming 2026 SSCE Internal examination.’ This is a departure from the old analogue process that NECO used in the past, which was replaced by a fully electronic recruitment system, as recommended by the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria.

The electronic recruitment system is entirely automated and does not involve any intermediary or third party. Applicants are required to upload their academic credentials through the council's official portal, https://supervisor.neco.gov.ng. The process is designed to be efficient, reducing the risk of corruption and improving the overall examination process.

It's worth noting that applicants must be pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above and at least 30 years old. This ensures that supervisors have the necessary experience and qualifications to oversee the examination smoothly.

NECO directed all eligible teachers interested in serving as supervisors to apply only through its official recruitment portal, stressing that the process is fully automated and transparent. The selection process is rigorous and involves electronic recruitment.

To curb fraud and malpractice, NECO has warned that any applicant found to have provided false information or paid for recruitment would be disqualified from the process. The council has assured that supervisors would be selected through a rigorous electronic recruitment process.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over the proliferation of online scams targeting job seekers and public-sector recruitment exercises. NECO has taken steps to strengthen the integrity of examination supervision and enhance transparency in the selection process.

The 2026 SSCE Internal Examination is scheduled to begin on June 15, 2026, and NECO will recruit no fewer than 22,000 supervisors to oversee the examination. This is part of efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination and maintain the credibility of the process.
