The Peoples Democratic Party’s 2027 governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Chukwuma Odii, has pledged to deliver transformational governance if elected in 2027, declaring that the state deserves visionary leadership capable of unlocking its vast potential through investments in education, infrastructure, human capital development, and institutional reforms.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with the Ebonyi State business community and professionals in Abuja on Friday, Odii said the state is grappling with poor leadership and urged residents to use the 2027 governorship election as an opportunity to choose a competent and visionary leader. He explained that if elected, his administration will launch the most ambitious human capital development programme in the history of Ebonyi State, ensuring that the state's youths occupy the commanding heights of the productive economy.

Odii specifically vowed to tackle the education sector, which he said is facing serious challenges, including inadequate school infrastructure, poor teacher quality and welfare, and low learning outcomes. The PDP candidate said neighbouring South-East states have made significant investments in education, innovation, technology integration, and human capital development, and that Ebonyi cannot afford to lag behind. To address these challenges, he pledged to declare a state of emergency in education, modernise public schools, recruit and retrain teachers, introduce technology-driven learning, expand STEM education, establish innovation hubs, improve tertiary education funding, and create scholarship programmes for exceptional students.

He also promised to pursue a transformative agenda focused on areas such as education, human capital development, infrastructure, tourism, institutional reforms, the rule of law, and security. The candidate argued that prosperity cannot thrive where institutions are weak, investment cannot flourish where insecurity persists, and development cannot endure where the rule of law is absent.

As part of his vision for the state, Odii said he will invest massively in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development, technology training, youth employment, women’s empowerment, leadership development, and vocational education, creating opportunities that empower citizens to create wealth and prosperity.

He also vowed to build and upgrade rural roads, urban roads, water systems, health facilities, agricultural infrastructure, industrial parks, digital infrastructure, and energy infrastructure, stressing that infrastructure must serve economic growth, attract investment, create jobs, and improve lives.

Odii's promise to reform the education sector is a welcome development for many residents of Ebonyi State, who have long complained about the state's poor education system. With his transformational agenda, it remains to be seen whether Odii's administration can deliver the promised change and take Ebonyi State to greater heights.

The PDP conducted its Ebonyi State governorship primary in May and is expected to submit the name of its candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission next week following the release of the access code required for political parties to upload candidates’ details.

Odii has a reputation for being a strong advocate for education and human capital development. His commitment to creating opportunities for the state's youths and women is a testament to his promise to serve every community in the state.

Ebonyi State has a lot to gain from Odii's vision for education and human capital development. The state's underperforming education sector has been a major concern for many years, and his promise to tackle this challenge is a step in the right direction.

With Ebonyi State's neighbours making significant investments in education, innovation, technology integration, and human capital development, Odii's emphasis on education is timely and urgent.

Ebonyi State's education sector faces serious challenges, including inadequate school infrastructure, poor teacher quality and welfare, and low learning outcomes. Odii's plan to modernise public schools, recruit and retrain teachers, introduce technology-driven learning, expand STEM education, establish innovation hubs, improve tertiary education funding, and create scholarship programmes for exceptional students is a comprehensive approach to addressing these challenges.

Ebonyi State's infrastructure is in a state of disrepair. Odii's plan to build and upgrade rural roads, urban roads, water systems, health facilities, agricultural infrastructure, industrial parks, digital infrastructure, and energy infrastructure will greatly improve the state's infrastructure and attract investment.

His commitment to creating opportunities for the state's youths and women is a testament to his promise to serve every community in the state. By investing in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development, technology training, youth employment, women’s empowerment, leadership development, and vocational education, Odii's administration will empower citizens to create wealth and prosperity.
