Bill Gates Testifies to Congress: Jeffrey Epstein Threatened to Blackmail Him

The Microsoft co-founder has a reputation for his dedication to philanthropy, but behind the scenes, he's been entangled in a web of controversy surrounding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to a transcript of his testimony released by the House Oversight Committee, Gates revealed that Epstein had sought to blackmail him over his extramarital affairs and had been 'veiled' in his approach.

'I was not blackmailed, but you know, as you look at these emails, you know, it looks like Mr. Epstein's brainstorming was going in that direction,' Gates said during the testimony.

Gates' connection to Epstein began in 2011, three years after the latter had pleaded guilty to prostitution charges involving minors. Despite knowing about Epstein's legal troubles, Gates claimed that he was drawn into Epstein's orbit because of the latter's ability to raise billions of dollars for global health initiatives, an area where Gates was deeply invested.

'I knew that (the Epstein conviction) was of a sexual nature, but, no, I don’t think I knew — dug into the specifics, although I probably should have,' Gates acknowledged.

Gates' testimony came as part of his appearance before the House Oversight Committee on June 10. He had released his opening remarks on the day of the testimony, stating that he had never been aware of Epstein's criminal behavior and had 'never victimized anyone.'
