The Ghana Football Association has launched a UK Talent Identification Programme, targeting young Ghanaians with a future in football. Forty players of Ghanaian descent, born in the UK and playing in Category One academies, took part in the inaugural talent identification programme in Bromley. These academies include Chelsea FC, Everton FC, Manchester City FC, and Arsenal FC. The players, aged between U15 and U20, were assessed by GFA Technical Director Prof. Mintah and FIFA Talent Coach Stuart McLaren. Coaches from Coach Hene Sporting Club monitored standout performers throughout the programme.
The UK Talent Identification Programme was overseen by Prof. Mintah, McLaren, and coaches from Coach Hene Sporting Club to monitor standout performers throughout the programme. Players aged between U15 and U20 from leading academies, including Chelsea FC, Everton FC, Manchester City FC, and Arsenal FC, took part in the exercise. Founder of Coach Hene Sporting Club, Emmanuel Afranie, described the programme as an important step in reconnecting talented young players of Ghanaian heritage with the national setup. This is the first time the Ghana Football Association has launched a talent identification programme in the UK.
“There is so much Ghanaian talent across the UK, and this initiative gives these young players the opportunity to connect with their roots while showcasing their abilities to the Ghana Football Association. This is only the beginning, and we believe the future is very bright,” said Emmanuel Afranie.
However, it's not just the Ghana Football Association that sees potential in these young players. President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, praised the collaboration behind the programme and highlighted its long-term importance for Ghana football. GFA Technical Director Prof. Mintah expressed satisfaction with the quality displayed during the exercise.
The programme is expected to expand to include Category Two and Three academies, as well as grassroots football across the UK and other parts of the world in the coming months. This will allow the programme to engage more young players and identify new talent for the Ghana national teams.
