Ashanti Regional Minister Launches Intense Sanitation Campaign

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene launched a massive sanitation campaign in Ashanti Region on July 4, 2026, with the intention of tackling flooding and poor sanitation. The company has deployed its fleet of trucks, excavators, and other equipment to support the cleaning and desilting activities in the region. According to sources, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has a long-standing partnership with the government to improve environmental sanitation in various parts of Ghana.

During the campaign launch, Zoomlion Ghana Limited's Managing Director, Mrs. Doris Kwekwor Adjei, reaffirmed the company's commitment to improving environmental sanitation through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. She stated that the company would continue to support the government in its efforts to keep Ghana clean.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who was present at the campaign launch, emphasized the importance of sanitation enforcement in the metropolis. He stated that the Assembly had been undertaking intensive desilting operations since March in preparation for the above-normal rainfall forecast for this year.

The Minister's announcement that sanitation enforcement would be strengthened through Environmental Health and Sanitation Inspecting Officers is also noteworthy. He disclosed that residents who provide credible information leading to the arrest of individuals engaged in illegal dumping would continue to receive rewards under the region's whistleblower programme.

According to the Minister, the government cannot continue spending substantial public resources clearing drains that are repeatedly blocked through human negligence. He attributed much of the problem to indiscriminate waste disposal and urged residents to adopt responsible sanitation practices.

The simultaneous exercise saw Zoomlion teams deployed to key locations, including Airport Roundabout, Krofrom, Kaase, Asokore Mampong, Atonsu, Breman UGC, Kronum-Aboahia, and other flood-prone communities. Drains and waterways were desilted to improve the flow of stormwater and reduce the risk of flooding.
