Edo Queens are champions again.
The Benin City side won the 2025/26 Nigeria Women's Football League (NWFL) title on Sunday after a goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens in the final round of the Premiership Super Six at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
This is their second NWFL title in three seasons under coach Moses Aduku.
The draw gave Edo Queens 10 points from the Super Six mini-league, enough to finish top of the table. Going into the final matchday, Ada Bendel were on nine points and needed just one point to be crowned champions. But they lost their last game, opening the door for Edo Queens to snatch the trophy.
The Super Six format brings together the top teams from the regular season to play a round-robin to decide the champion. Edo Queens won three of their five matches, drew two, and lost none in the mini-league.
Coach Moses Aduku has now won two NWFL titles with Edo Queens — the first came in the 2023/24 season. The club has become a consistent force in Nigerian women's football, regularly challenging for honours.
The Edo State Football Association celebrated the victory on Instagram, posting: "Edo Queens Win 2025/26 NWFL Title."
The win means Edo Queens will represent Nigeria at the next CAF Women's Champions League, where they'll face the best club sides from across Africa. They made their debut in the competition in 2024 after winning their first league title.
Bayelsa Queens, who finished as runners-up, also qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League as the second Nigerian representative.
The NWFL season typically runs from late year to mid-year. The 2025/26 champions will now shift focus to continental preparations.
Edo Queens' success continues a strong run for women's football in Edo State. The state government has invested in the team's facilities and support staff in recent years.
The final matchday produced drama beyond the title race. Several teams finished level on points, with goal difference separating positions in the final standings.
For the players, the title means a spot in next season's CAF Women's Champions League, a chance to test themselves against the continent's best. For the fans in Benin City, it's another trophy to celebrate.
Aduku's squad blended experienced internationals with young talents from the Edo State academy system. The coach has built a team that plays disciplined, organised football — they conceded only two goals in the entire Super Six tournament.
Edo Queens will now await the draw for the CAF Women's Champions League, expected in the coming months. The competition usually takes place later in the year.
For now, they're champions. Again.
