The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) and Global Media Alliance (GMA) are joining hands to make the World PR Day Festival 2026 a big deal. The Dean of UniMAC's Faculty of Business and Strategic Communication, Dr Priscilla Teika Odoom, led a delegation to GMA on Monday, June 8, 2026, to seal the deal.

Under the partnership, UniMAC's Department of Public Relations will host The PR Dialogue, the festival's flagship event. The two institutions will also jointly curate a PR Arts Exhibition that focuses on traditional African communication systems — think talking drums, oral poetry, and other pre-colonial ways of passing messages.

But the collaboration doesn't stop at the festival. GMA will take on UniMAC students for internships, send its experienced professionals to give guest lectures, and work with the university on research and consultancy projects. The idea is to make sure students don't just learn theory but also understand how the real communication industry works.

Dr Odoom said during the meeting: "As a Faculty, we recognise that strong industry partnerships are essential for preparing students for the realities of professional practice. Our engagement with Global Media Alliance represents an important step towards creating opportunities for experiential learning, research collaboration, professional mentorship, and industry exposure for our students."

GMA's Chief Director, Emma Wenani, was equally enthusiastic. "Global Media Alliance has always believed in the importance of nurturing the next generation of communication professionals," she said. "This engagement with UniMAC presents an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with industry practice in meaningful ways."

The visit is part of a broader push by UniMAC's Faculty of Business and Strategic Communication to strengthen ties with industry players. The Faculty and the Department of Public Relations have been actively seeking partnerships with leading communication organisations in Ghana to bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice.

UniMAC itself was established in 2020 through the merger of three institutions: the Ghana Institute of Journalism, the National Film and Television Institute, and the Ghana Institute of Languages. It's the country's only public university dedicated entirely to media, arts, and communication.

Global Media Alliance is a well-known communication group in Ghana. It runs several media properties, including Happy FM, YFM, and e.TV Ghana, and offers services in advertising, public relations, and event management.

The meeting ended with both sides optimistic about a long-term partnership. For students, this means more than just a line on their CVs — it means real exposure to the industry they hope to join. For the communications profession in Ghana, it's a step towards making sure the next generation of practitioners is ready for the real world.
