The National Examinations Council (NECO) has finally released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The results were approved after a successful meeting of the BECE Award Committee, which was held at the council's headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, announced that a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination in 12 subjects. The candidates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and ended successfully on April 30, 2026. Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, at the meeting and expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the release of the results.

The Award Committee has also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies. This examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

According to NECO, the re-sit examination will provide affected candidates with an opportunity to remedy the deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year.

NECO stated that the initiative is aimed at supporting students in meeting the academic requirements for progression to the next level of their education.
