Two Men Charged with Possessing and Supplying Illicit Drugs in WA's South West Region
Two men have been charged with possessing and supplying large quantities of illicit drugs after police seized 80kg of cocaine, meth, and heroin in WA's South West region. The seized drugs were found in multiple locations, including a residence on Cabramatta Street in Bayswater, and a residence on Laurent Way in Dalyellup.
Detectives from the Drug and Firearm squad allege that the 26-year-old driver from Dalyellup was involved in the supply and exchange of illicit drugs after police conducted a traffic stop on Forrest Highway back in January of this year. The police initially stopped and searched a silver Mazda 3 sedan driven by the 26-year-old, where they allegedly found a package containing about one kilogram of cocaine.
The driver collected the package an hour earlier from a park in Piara Waters, where it was deposited by the 20-year-old man from Victoria. The 20-year-old man was charged with three counts of possessing a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply to another, and one count of possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply regarding the heroin found.
In addition to these new charges, the 26-year-old driver from Dalyellup is facing one count of possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply and one count of possessing a prohibited drug in reference to the cocaine discovery. He is also facing one count of possessing a prohibited drug for the methylamphetamine discovery and one count of unlawfully possessing a controlled or prescription drug.
A total of 57 kilograms of methamphetamine, 23 kilograms of cocaine, and 2.5 kilograms of heroin were seized by police. The 20-year-old man was tracked down and apprehended after police discovered that he had deposited the package containing cocaine in Piara Waters. A second search warrant was executed at a residence on Laurent Way in Dalyellup, where detectives allegedly located more cocaine, meth, and unlawfully possessed prescription drugs.
Both men are due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday. The 26-year-old driver from Dalyellup is facing multiple counts of drug-related charges, including possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply. The 20-year-old man from Victoria is facing charges of supplying a prohibited drug over the seized cocaine and one count of possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply regarding the heroin found.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated to be in the millions of dollars, with the 57 kilograms of methamphetamine worth over $1.8 million, and the 23 kilograms of cocaine worth over $4.6 million. The 2.5 kilograms of heroin is worth over $1.2 million.
This operation highlights the ongoing effort by the police to crack down on the supply and exchange of illicit drugs in the South West region. Police are working tirelessly to disrupt the supply chain and bring those responsible to justice. WA Police Commissioner stated, "We will not tolerate the supply and exchange of illicit drugs in our community."
The investigation is still ongoing, with detectives continuing to look into the supply and exchange of illicit drugs in the South West region. Police are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. The community is left wondering how such a significant operation was able to take place.
