A Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of a prominent content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, more popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre. The court’s decision on Friday follows investigations into the serious allegations of rape and the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.
According to Awele Ideal, the lawyer representing Favour’s family on a pro bono basis, the autopsy and toxicology reports have been handed over to the police. These crucial pieces of evidence, along with other findings from the investigation, have been compiled into a report ready for the Ministry of Justice to proceed with prosecution.
"Today, the 4/9/2026, the application to remand Mr Ifeanyi Ogbonna (Odogwu Asaba) was heard and granted by the Court," Ms Ideal stated. "He has now been remanded at the Ogwashi Uku Maximum Correctional Centre (Prison). From there he shall be brought to court until the completion of his trial, which now lies with the Ministry of Justice (AG and DPP)." Ms Ideal reiterated her commitment to supporting Favour's family, offering both legal and financial aid to ensure the case gets the thorough prosecution it deserves. She promised to keep the public updated on developments.
The case first gained significant public attention in July when the Delta State Police Command arrested Mr Ogbonna. The arrest came after allegations surfaced that he had raped Ms Agbro, who tragically died after ingesting a toxic substance.
Reports from July indicate that Favour Agbro had travelled to Asaba on June 1 after Mr Ogbonna allegedly promised to help her monetize her TikTok and Facebook accounts through content creation. Police sources say that upon her arrival, Mr Ogbonna took her to a hotel where the alleged rape and physical assault took place.
After returning home, Ms Agbro reportedly disclosed the incident to her parents. In a distressing turn, she later recorded a video detailing her experience and emotional pain before consuming a toxic substance. Despite efforts to save her life, she passed away.
In the video that has surfaced, Ms Agbro identified herself as Favour from Warri and directly accused Mr Ogbonna of being responsible for her impending death. She explained that she had reached out to him online seeking financial assistance, and he had then invited her to Asaba, claiming he would help her.
The police initiated their investigation following a petition from the deceased’s family. The then Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, had ordered the Area Command in Effurun to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations. During initial questioning, Mr Ogbonna reportedly provided "useful statements." The police assured the family of their commitment to a comprehensive investigation.
This development comes shortly after Mr Ogbonna’s wife publicly addressed the allegations in August. In a video shared on her husband’s social media, she acknowledged that her husband had an affair with Ms Agbro but vehemently denied any rape. She stated that after eight years of marriage, she believed her husband didn't force himself on Favour. She reaffirmed her stance in another video shared on September 1, expressing confidence that her husband would be cleared. She also stated that she would continue to stand by him despite public backlash.
With the court's remand order, the legal proceedings are now moving towards the prosecution stage. Mr Ogbonna is expected to remain in custody pending the continuation of his trial.
