The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested suspected Boko Haram terrorists, Lakurawa bandits, informants, and logistics suppliers in a month-long crackdown. They've also rescued a kidnapped woman.
Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia announced the successes at a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. He said the operations were driven by intelligence and teamwork with other security agencies, vigilante groups, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
On June 5, police arrested three suspected members of the Mamudawa/Boko Haram group along the Illo-Lolo Road in Bagudo Local Government Area. The suspects — Muhammadu Bandi, Aliyu Abubakar, and Muhammadu Abubakar — were allegedly transporting food supplies to criminals in the area. Investigations linked them to movements near Illo during an attack on June 4 that killed three Federal Road Safety Corps personnel.
Two days later, on June 7, police nabbed four suspected Lakurawa bandits along the Ka’oje-Bakin Ruwa Road in Bagudo LGA. They're being investigated for banditry in the SODA Forest.
The command also arrested a logistics supplier for Lakurawa terrorists. Murtala Sani, from Zazzagawa Village in Argungu LGA, was picked up on June 9. Intelligence reports said he supplied food and drinks to the group and had transported a suspected Lakurawa member to criminal hideouts multiple times.
On June 10, police, vigilantes, and the CJTF rescued a kidnapped woman, Asmau Isah. She was abducted from her home in the Bayan Forestry area of Birnin Kebbi after attackers stole N220,000 and phones. One suspect was arrested during the rescue, and police are hunting for others.
In another operation, police arrested Ayuba Ibrahim, a suspected informant for bandits, in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudo LGA. They recovered a pump-action rifle, three live cartridges, and other items from him.
A 42-year-old man, Aliyu Jibrin of Kwakware Village in Arewa LGA, was arrested at Makera Market with a locally made pistol.
The police also recovered a stolen Mercedes-Benz C200 through inter-command collaboration. The car was stolen in Sokoto State and found in Birnin Kebbi. The suspect, Ahmed Sa’adu, known as Baga, has been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for prosecution.
Hadejia also disclosed an investigation into a 36-year-old security guard, Faruku Muhammed, who allegedly lured a 10-year-old girl into his room at an Islamiyya school in Jega LGA and sexually assaulted her. He'll be prosecuted after investigations.
The commissioner praised the public, vigilante groups, the CJTF, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their support. He urged residents to stay vigilant and share information with security agencies, promising confidentiality.
"We're committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state," Hadejia said.
